![]() ![]() Everyone who has done something remarkable with me claims to have discovered me. NS: By my parents, by my teacher, by my first art dealer… The people around me have never stopped discovering me. However, I’ve received the strongest imprinting from the contact with the rituals of the country where I live, the compulsive daily work in my study, my going to museums. MB: Do you have any formal training in the arts? Nicola Samorì: I don’t remember, actually. Mia Benenate: When did you first start painting? There was not a lot of personal information on Samori on his website but I did find a very interesting interview from a few years back., published in the Huffington Post. He is known for preserving older styles of painting in his work. Some of his paintings have a collaged feel, where realistic representation is layered with abstract shapes and textures. The painting feels more alive when it is not completely developed and pristine. These kinds of paintings are always extremely attractive to me. I am also very interested in his more abstracted work, where the figure is broken down into simple shapes. I love his deep, moody colors and his simple compositions, often focusing on one key figure. His work has a historic feel, I was surprised to find that he was a contemporary painter. His paintings are haunting and beautiful, somewhat reminiscent of baroque art. ![]() I can’t believe I’ve never heard of Nicola Samori before stumbling upon his work today. ![]()
